EAGLE ISLAND, Maine -- June 23, 2014 -- Adm. Robert Peary's Eagle island home has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.

As of September 30, 2014:
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today celebrated the designation of two Maine sites as National Historic Landmarks—Eagle Island near Harpswell, the longtime summer residence of Arctic explorer and Bowdoin College graduate Robert E. Peary; and the homestead of Frances Perkins, the country’s first female presidential cabinet member, in Newcastle.
