1/17/12 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. L.L. Bean CEO Chris McCormick came to Brunswick Manufacturing on Tuesday to kick off the 100th anniversary celebrations --and the starting point of the Bootmobile's national tour. The Bootmobile, a size 747 replica of the Maine Hunting Shoe, is made from fiberglass and mounted on top of a biodiesel-fueled truck. The plan is to drive it to New York and other places in the US to celebrate L.L.Bean's 100th year in business. The tour started Tuesday at the Brunswick Manufacturing facility where boots, bags, bikes and skis are assembled. McCormick said with a laugh,"Ooh, I'm not driving it. Imagine the headlines - CEO crashes Bootmobile." The bootmobile is piloted by Ian Bechtel of Portland Ore, a professional driver and tour operator. Photo by Roger S. Duncan. ..
