Christmas Tree cut from Cash Corner So. Portland for Monument Square

PORTLAND, Maine 11/15/18 -- Luke Lermond, a member of the Forestry Section of Portland’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department, cuts this year's Christmas tree from the front yard of the South Portland Fire department at Cash Corner. The fire Department donated a 40-foot blue spruce to the city of Portland as this year's Christmas tree.
Crews from Portland cut and prepared the tree to be set in a storm drain in the center of Monument Square. Keeley Crane Services and Shaw Brothers Construction donated staff, crane, and transportation services.
Later this week, the tree will be lit with over 5,000 LED lights at the Monument Square Tree Lighting on Friday, November 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Santa Claus has suggested he might make an appearance and local musicians will be performing.
