Georgiana Peacher of Brunswick  holds up an "Obama for Me" bumper sticker at her Democratic Caucus on Sunday afternoon. 1326 people voted (with their feet) at the Brunswick Middle School in the middle of a whiteout snowstorm. In Brunswick, Sen. Barack Obama (Dem-Ill) finished with 48 delegates and Sen. Hillary Clinton (Dem-NY) took 19. In Bath, Topsham and Harpswell and in the state as a whole, Obama also won. Brunswick artist Bev Bevilaqua secures a line holding the covering of the mural "Dance of Two Cultures" at 11 Pleasant St. in Brunswick just before the grand unveiling on Saturday afternoon. The mural is a product of The Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City Association, whose mission is to bring the diverse communities of Brunswick, Maine and Trinidad, Cuba together in a shared project that will add to the uniqueness and beauty of Brunswick?s downtown area and celebrate the sister city relationship. .In his thanks to the community and his family, Muralist Chris Cart pointed out that approximately two-thirds of the faces in the mural are representative of community members in Brunswick or Trinidad and include a variety of noteworthy figures in Brunswick's history and present.   • BRUNSWICK, Maine  11/24/18 -- Mark Rockwood of Brunswick, stirs the hot chocolate at the Brunswick's tree lighting event on Saturday. He said, "No weak cocoa here," as added three cans to the batch. Hannaford supermarket donated the cocoa. <br />
Trevor Geiger, of Brunswick Downtown Association, said that the organization expected over 1500 guests at the event and that they counted participation by the number of cups of cocoa they passed out. He added that there were more than 20 volunteers helping out with the event and over 1500 cookies were on the table. Most were homemade, by volunteers. Photo by Roger S. Duncan.

  • 5/7/08 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Hallowell artist Chris Cart covers the bottom of the mural, "Dance of Two Cultures" with a coat of clear varnish on Wednesday morning. The mural is hung on the outside wall at 11 Pleasant St. in Brunswick (Georgetown Pottery) on the side of the building which faces oncoming traffic. The mural is a product of The Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City Association, whose mission is to bring the diverse communities of Brunswick, Maine and Trinidad, Cuba together in a shared project that will add to the uniqueness and beauty of Brunswick?s downtown area and celebrate the sister city relationship. .Approximately two-thirds of the faces in the mural are representative of community members in Brunswick or Trinidad and include a variety of noteworthy figures in Brunswick's history and present such as James Bowdoin. .There will be a grand unveiling on Saturday May 10.   • BRUNSWICK, Maine -- May 31, 2011-- Arnold Wilkie, 87, of Cornish, NH, stands to be acknowledged by the assembled crowd at Naval Air Station Brunswick during the disestablishment ceremony. As a young Sailor Wilkie served at NAS Brunswick when the base opened on April 15, 1943 as a training area for British pilots. Since then it has been home to many squadrons of P-3 Orion aircraft Sailors. The base disestablished today in a ceremony at the command building.   • 1/17/12 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Terry Amsted of Brunswick works in the L.L.Bean manufacturing facility in Brunswick on Tuesday after ceremonies to kick off the 100th birthday began with the unveiling of the Bootmobile. .Among other, company CEO Chris McCormick came on Tuesday to kick off the 100th anniversary celebrations -- and break in the size 747 boot for it's cross-country trip. The Bootmobile, a size 747 replica of the Maine Hunting Shoe, is made from fiberglass and mounted on top of a biodiesel-fueled truck. The plan is to drive it to New York and other places in the US to celebrate L.L.Bean's 100th year in business. The tour started Tuesday at the Brunswick Manufacturing facility where boots, bags, bikes and skis are assembled. McCormick said with a laugh,"Ooh, I'm not driving it. Imagine the headlines - CEO crashes Bootmobile." The bootmobile is piloted by Ian Bechtel of Portland Ore, a professional driver and tour operator. Photo by Roger S. Duncan. ..

The Blue Angels photographer, Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Michael Carnicelli, captures the action at the The Great State of Maine Airshow on Sunday afternoon. The airshow visited Naval Air Station Brunswick for the last time this weekend, bringing The U.S. Navy Blue Angels, The U.S. Army Golden Knights and a wide variety of static displays and interactive exhibits. The show drew over 150,000 people over three days with no mishaps among the performers and no emergencies among the attendees. .Because NAS Brunswick is scheduled to be closed in 2011 by the Base Realignment Commission, there will not be another Navy-sponsored airshow at this location. Yet, the Local Redevelopment Authority, responsible for managing the property after the departure of the Navy,  has included an airshow on a list of possible future uses for the property.   • 11/17/11 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Driver Gregory Guckenburg, 62, shares a friendly laugh with Pam Boucher, 59, of Brunswick after helping her get off of the Brunswick Explorer.  "If it wasn't for this bus we wouldn't get out to anywhere," said Boucher. Boucher and her friend, Becky Estabrook, left, who travels with her, were very positive about the bus, which seats as many as 15 people, including Boucher, who uses a wheelchair lock-in system. The plan is to drive it to New York and other places in the US to celebrate L.L.Bean's 100th year in business. The tour started Tuesday at the Brunswick Manufacturing facility where boots, bags, bikes and skis are assembled. McCormick said with a laugh,"Ooh, I'm not driving it.   • 11/17/11 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Driver Gregory Guckenburg, 62, assists Pam Boucher, 59, of Brunswick with getting off of the Brunswick Explorer.  "If it wasn't for this bus we wouldn't get out to anywhere," said Boucher. Boucher and her friend, Becky Estabrook, 58, in the door, who travels with her, were very positive about the bus, which seats as many as 15 people, including Boucher, who uses a wheelchair lock-in system. Working artists Bev Bevilacqua, left, of Brunswick and Rod Cart of Phippsburg, prepare a sheet of Tyvek to be an outdoor mural by painting it with a latex primer. The mural, 32 feet long by 8 feet wide, will be called ?Dance of Two Cultures? and is designed by Hallowell artist Chris Cart. It will depict the exchange of culture between Brunswick and its sister city, Trinidad, Cuba and be worked on in the 3rd floor loft above Georgetown Pottery at 11 Pleasant St through March, 2008.
